New Camera

Don't mind our messy apartment, or how gross I look because I'm sick.

This was taken with our brand new camera...we were having lots of fun!

Scary Dentist

Yesterday Tony and I went to the dentist to get our teeth cleaned and checked on before we head off for Bulgaria. I'm the only one who got x-rays because we are concerned with my wisdom teeth. We don't want to have any dental problems while we're overseas!

It's kind of difficult for us to go to the dentist because we don't have dental insurance. We are on a discount program through BYU's insurance and even though we get a certain percentage off, it's still lots of money.

I've leanred one very, very valuable lesson from my dentist visit yesterday: GET YOUR WISDOM TEETH OUT ASAP! EVEN IF THEY ARE COMING IN STRAIGHT!!!!!

I didn't realize the problems wisdom teeth can cause. I always thought that if they are coming in straight, no big dealy! Not true. After finding out that I have a number of cavities (I've only had one my whole life) I learned that when wisdom teeth come in, they hardly ever break through their "development sack". A layer of tissue remains over the top of the molar therefore food and other things I put in my mouth cannot be cleaned from that tooth. It gets stuck under that tissue causing bacteria to grow and spread to my other teeth. Stupid wisdom teeth!!! So, soon I have to go in for this ginormous operation where I have my two bottom wisdom teeth extracted and my cavities filled all in one sitting. Woo hoo. Since the dentist can remove my wisdom teeth (they're already in, you can see them pretty well) I just get to take some loopy pills and let them go to town on me for a very large sum of dollars.

I was kind of frustrated with this news from the dentist, but as I continue to research, the more grateful I become. I'm dreading the day of the procedure, though. I hate the dentist!

3, 3, 3!

As indicated above by our lovely little countdown, we have 3 months, 3 weeks, and 3 days until we take off for Bulgaria! We decided that we should celebrate our 3, 3, 3 mark. Tonight at 12:00 (midnight) there is a show about traveling in Bulgaria. So, we're pulling out the couch bed and having a late night Bulgaria fest!

Tomorrow (if I'm feeling a little better) we are planning on hiking the Y and doing some shopping (yay!!). I haven't hiked the Y since my third day as a college student at BYU. Hopefully this time around I'll be a little more acclimated and the hike will be more relaxing than it was the first time around :).

We're Leavin' on a Jet Plane

It's official! We are going to Bulgaria! On Sunday Tony's parents so generously donated 120,000 SkyMiles and bought our tickets to Bulgaria. It wasn't easy, we are going to be professional airplane travelers by the time we get back with all the layovers and such. It's pretty smooth sailing on the way there but on the way back in order for it to work we had to fly pretty close to Christmas, stay two nights in Paris (bummer, I know), and have a 23-hour layover in Houston. If anyone knows anything fun to do in Houston, let us know!

I'm a little more nervous now that we actually have our plane tickets. Before it was still just kind of an idea but now it's official. Wow, I better get crackin' on my Bulgarian!

In other news, I've given up on attempting to snatch another job before we leave. I realized that no one that paid well was going to hire me for just the summer. So, I'll have my Tuesdays and Thursdays to stay at home, prepare for Bulgaria, and learn Bulgarian. There's surprisingly a lot to do to get ready for our big trip! Right now I'm setting up doctors appointments and we're working on trying to get a new camera. The digital camera I have is pretty dinky and kind of getting old and Tony's boss/uncle has a really cool camera/camcorder that we'd like to have. The brand is called Xacti and at Wal-Mart they are only $249

Hopefully we can snag one of those!

Mother's Day

This may not be your typical Mother's day blog, but I've been wanting to get other opinions on this subject. Last Thursday I was listening to my favorite radio station and the DJ's began talking about Mother's day. One of these DJ's is married but he and his wife have no children. He asked the question, "do I get my wife a present for mother's day?" Women began calling in telling him that yes, he SHOULD get something/do something for his wife on mother's day because she is the future mother of his future children. The other DJ disagreed because she isn't a mother yet. I agree with the DJ. If you aren't a mother, celebrate YOUR mother. Get YOUR mom a gift and let her know how much you appreciate her. After all the day is for mothers, not future mothers. These women are just looking for another excuse to get presents and get pampered.

My view is this: if Tony has to get me a Mother's day present because I am the future mother of his children, shouldn't I have to get him a present for mother's day? After all, he will be the reason I am a future mother of his children. Ridiculous, isn't it? :) What are your opinions?

Happy future-Mother's day, Tony!

Monthly Fave

As promised, I am posting a favorite recipe I've tried this month. For the month of May I've chosen Fruit Pizza. Some people think this sounds gross, but it is sooo yummy! Try it!

(This picture isn't the actual one I made, but it works for illustration)

Fruit Pizza

  • Lots of fruit of your choice! I usually go with strawberries, kiwi, pineapple, and mandarin oranges
  • One container (just the normal size) of pineapple cream cheese
  • Roll of crescent roll dough
  • Pizza pan (I usually just pick up a foil one from the store)

1. Press the crescent roll dough into ungreased pizza pan. I find it easier to just kind of roll up the dough into a ball and then spread it into the pan, otherwise the little perforated triangles will pull apart when you bake it. You could also make your own roll dough but this is the simple, fast way.

2. Bake the dough according to directions on package (usually about 10-12 minutes)

3. Let dough cool completely after baking. When dough is cooled, spread pineapple cream cheese onto dough (this is your sauce!). Place fruit on pizza however you'd like, then enjoy!

Easy, huh?

Makeover!

I have been envying all of my friends who have cute blog layouts and today I finally figured out how to get one for myself! So, I gave my blog a facelift. What do you think?

Another kind of makeover I'm working on is losing weight. I am currently enrolled in some aerobics classes at BYU and have a goal to work out everyday. Tony and I are planning "active activities" once a week to help me with my weight loss goals. Last saturday we played basketball (way fun) and next Saturday we are hiking Y Mountain! I'm also dieting and trying to eat healthier. I'm excited to get in better shape. I put a nice little weight tracker at the top of my blog so I can see my progress and I guess so you all can, too!
