Bunny Update

I'm sure you're all just on pins and needles waiting to hear how Lovey 2.0 has been fairing, so I thought I'd end the suspense for you. :)  Lovey 2.0 is a very loved bunny, but not loved enough to sleep with at night.  We quickly gave up on 2.0 and he's now another car companion.  He seems to be happy in his new home, and we give him lots of attention on our car rides.

Upon reading my last post, my mother-in-law found a bunny that looked very similar to Lovey Bunny at Kohl's (this one has grey ears and ribbon along the bottom).  She asked if she should get it, and we welcomed the idea and the thought of having a backup for LB the first.  She brought over LB2.1 and Audrey seemed to take to him quite nicely.  She even took a nap with him!  So, I did something daring.  Because LB was so rank from baby spit and I ran out of time to wash him, I decided to bring LB2.1 on our little road trip to Denver.  She slept okay, but not super well.  We chalked it up to being in a strange place and not in her own bed.  We totally thought we scored with LB2.1.  He was the perfect replacement!  He is nearly identical!

Fast-forward to today.  After coming home and seeing LB in her crib, Audrey has been so attached to that thing it's ridiculous.  She will. not. put. it. down.  Usually we can leave LB in her room while we run errands but not today!  I set him in her crib and she shrieked and reached out for him.  Instead of finding a solution for the lovey problem, I've made it worse.  I'm especially nervous because Audrey and I are flying to Indiana next week without Tony.  LB will most definitely be accompanying us and the thought of dropping him in an airport makes me want to vomit.  I don't think buying an identical LB would work on Audrey.  She knows where he's been worn, she knows how he feels, and she knows everything about him.  The only solution I could think of was to make an I.D. tag for LB.  I got out some flannel I had leftover from a quilt I made for my sister and embroidered LB's name on it and "if found, please call ###-###-#### (my number)"  I attached it to an elastic that I plan to put around LB's neck for our journey.  I got the idea from lostmylovey.com.  I almost bought one of theirs but then decided not to spend the money since it was something I could easily make.  I am hoping that if LB does happen to lose his way, that the person who finds him will realize how much LB is loved and give me a call.

One thing gives me hope about LB:  currently sitting in the corner of Audrey's room is my good friend, Teddy.  Teddy was my "lovey" growing up, and he is still the original guy.  If we take good care of Lovey Bunny and keep our eye on him, I'm sure he'll grow with Audrey into her teenage years much like Teddy did with me.

I think it is so sweet that Audrey knows Lovey Bunny so well and loves him so much.  I'm glad she has a comfort item that she can snuggle with when she's having a hard time.  I just have to work on getting the yellow stains out of his ears from all the sucking she does on them.  Bleck!  Hopefully Pinterest will pull through for me on this one!
